How a Boerboel Puppy Travels From Portugal to New York
- 01
It begins with a message. Tell us whether you live in an apartment in the city or in a house upstate, who lives with you and what you want from your dog. We use that to suggest the right puppy for your home.
- 02
Your puppy is reserved when we receive the deposit of €700, by US bank transfer or by card. When you select your puppy, you pay the balance of €2,800. Until it travels, your puppy grows up at our kennel in Portugal, handled every day, and we send you updates.
- 03
A specialized transport company organizes the journey and the paperwork. Before the trip, they send you the travel plan and the final quote, and you pay them directly. Your Boerboel arrives in New York with its vet report and travel documents, and you collect it at the airport or ask for home delivery.
I purchased my second Boerboel from Elite. I did a lot of research on breeders & their overall breeder dogs & you will not find any better quality. They are not called Elite for just anything. Truly top of the line Boerboels.

Snowy Upstate Winters and Humid City Summers
New York weather depends a lot on where you live. The north of the state often gets heavy lake-effect snow, and areas east of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario often record more than 150 inches in a year. In November 2014, one lake-effect storm dropped more than 5 feet of snow just east of Buffalo.
Summers are milder: typical highs run from the low 70s °F in the far north to around 80 °F in the south of the state. Still, extreme heat is a particular concern for New York City, where heat and humidity together can push the heat index to dangerous levels.
A Boerboel copes well with both cold and heat. Our advice for New York:
- In winter, let your dog live and sleep inside. Indoor life protects it from needless exposure to cold and wet weather.
- Dry your Boerboel when it comes in wet, and give it non-slip surfaces when the floor is wet.
- On humid summer days in the city, walk early and late, and give your dog shade, water and rest indoors.
- Keep a closer eye on puppies and older dogs, and call your veterinarian with any health question.
Elevators, Stairs and Neighbors: A Boerboel in New York City
Can a Boerboel live in a New York City apartment? It can work for a stable dog with an owner who has time, but it is never automatic. The size of the apartment matters less than the daily routine.
City life is full of tests: elevators, hallways, neighbors at the door, delivery people and other dogs on the sidewalk. Teach elevator manners early, so your dog learns to step in, wait and ignore people calmly in a small space. With a young puppy, keep stairs to a minimum, because growing bones and joints should not take that strain every day.
If you live upstate with more room, the routine stays the same: daily walks, short training sessions and a place inside the family home. Read Boerboels and apartment life and are Boerboels good with other dogs before your puppy comes home.
