Before purchasing our dog, we spent well over a year researching Boerboel breeders and concluded that Elite Boerboel was definitely in a very small group of top breeders in the world. A little over 3 years ago we purchased a Tarzan daughter from Rui. […] Victoria is everything you could hope for in the breed and more. […] Her loyalty to our family is unwavering, and she has formed deep bonds with every member of the household. At the same time, her natural protective instincts give us complete confidence that she is always watching over her loved ones.

Long, Hot Summers: A Boerboel in the Georgia Climate

Georgia has long, hot, humid summers and short, usually mild winters. Summer highs in Atlanta sit in the high 80s °F, with only a few days at 95 °F or more, and frequent afternoon and evening thunderstorms are part of a typical summer.

Snow is light across the state, under 5 inches a year on average even in the northern mountains. Direct hurricane landfalls are rare, but the remains of tropical storms can still bring heavy rain and strong winds.

The Boerboel handles heat well, as long as you manage it:

Midday belongs to rest: indoors, or in deep shade with fresh water.
Exercise and training happen in the cooler hours, never in extreme heat.
A storm or a sudden change of plans is easier with a puppy that sees its crate as a calm, safe place.
Puppies and senior dogs need extra watching, and your vet should hear about any worry.

Georgia Homes, From Atlanta Suburbs to Country Land

Wherever you live in Georgia, your Boerboel should be part of the house. The breed was developed as a guardian and family farm dog, never as a decorative yard dog. Dogs kept outside with little contact can grow frustrated, bored or noisy.

Land and a strong fence give a Boerboel room to move, which helps. In a suburb with a normal yard, a daily routine of structured walks, training and rest does the same job. Either way, your dog needs to learn how to behave around visitors, children and other dogs. Our article are Boerboels good family dogs explains what to expect.

When your puppy lands, keep the first days quiet and the food the same, because travel can upset appetite and digestion. Then feed for slow growth: how much a Boerboel puppy should eat.
